A newborn baby was rescued by extended relatives from the ruins of a home in northern Syria in a heartbreaking rescue. After a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake devastated the area on Monday, the infant was discovered still connected to her dead mother by her umbilical cord. The infant’s mother Afraa, father Abdullah, four siblings, and an aunt perished in the catastrophe.
The video shows the father sprinting out of the four-story structure that has collapsed while holding the little, dust-covered child. The infant, who was transferred to the adjacent town of Afrin for medical attention, is the only member of her immediate family to have survived. The deceased’s bodies were recovered over the course of the following several hours by family members.
