The legendary tennis player Martina Navratilova has been identified as having stage one breast and throat cancer, according to an email her agent sent to CNN on Monday.
In a statement posted to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) website, the 66-year-old said, “This double whammy is serious, but still fixable.
“I’m hoping for a good result. For a while, it’s going to stink, but I’ll fight with everything I’ve got.
Navratilova battled breast cancer in 2010, and she has won 59 grand slam titles in her career.
18 grand slam singles titles, 31 grand slam doubles titles, and 10 grand slam mixed doubles trophies were earned by Navratilova over her lengthy playing career. She still holds the record for most titles won on the WTA Tour with 167.
She stopped competing in singles in 1994 at the age of 38, although she kept playing doubles and winning championships into her 40s.
