Avatar: The Way of Water surpasses $1 billion in worldwide box office receipts

Avatar: The Way of Water, James Cameron’s much anticipated sequel, has now earned $1 billion worldwide at the movie office. Official statistics state that the overseas box office alone accounted for up to $762 million of the whole revenue.

Avatar: The Way of Water is expected to surpass Top Gun: Maverick’s $770 million in box office revenue to take the title of 2022’s most successful foreign movie. This past Tuesday marked the landmark for the 20th Century/Disney release. Within 14 days of its release, the film had become a worldwide box office triumph. In contrast, it took Avatar 1 19 days to reach the $1 billion mark.

The franchise’s 2009 debut movie broke the all-time box office record and held onto it for ten years before being dethroned in 2019 by Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame.

James Cameron reportedly has the franchise planned out to Avatar 5 and has already shot some of Avatar 3 and 4.
