Bird Flu found in Newport County flock
As the contagious illness spreads across the nation, the first case of avian flu has arrived in San Diego County.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune, a dead black swan’s carcass that was found at Lake San Marcos last week has tested positive for avian influenza.
To identify the virus strain, the sample will be sent to National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa, which are under the supervision of the US Department of Agriculture.
